Professor Kolade Luke Ayorinde
Prof. Kolade Luke Ayorinde was born on 17th September, 1954 at Ayetoro Ile in Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State. He had his primary education at the ECWA Primary School Elesin meta (1961 – 1964) and Igbo Owu (1965 – 1967). He attended Titcombe College, Egbe (1968 – 1972) for his secondary school education and the Abdul Azeez Atta Memorial College, Okene, 1973 – 1974, for his Higher School Certificate, where he was appointed as the Head Boy of the School. He spent the 1974 – 1975 period as Biology and Chemistry teacher at Patigi Secondary School before he gained admission to the University of Ibadan, Jos Campus for Preliminary Studies in Science (Chemistry, Botany and Zoology) on Kwara State Government Scholarship. He came out as the best Science student after the one year Preliminary Studies and decided to transfer to the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, to study Animal Science between 1976 and 1979 on Federal Government Scholarship. He graduated with a Second Class honours Upper Division as the second best graduate in Animal Science. He served the mandatory National Youth Service Scheme at the Comprehensive High School, Ayetoro - Egbado in Ogun State (1979 – 1980)and taught at the same school as an Agriculture teacher before he returned to the University of Ibadan for graduate studies, again on Federal Government Scholarship. He completed his Master degree in 1982 and Ph. D. in 1987, specializing in Animal Breeding and Genetics. Professor Ayorinde has rich wealth of experience as a Researcher and Administrator. He started his working career as a Research Officer at the then Kainji Lake Research Institute, KLRI, New Bussa in 1983 and joined the services of the University of Ilorin in 1987. He rose through the ranks and became a Professor in October 1995. While at New Bussa, he was the Head, Guinea Fowl Domestication and Improvement Unit and Chairman KLRI Poultry and Feedmill project. He has served the University of Ilorin in many capacities. He was one time Departmental Examination Coordinator, Departmental Seminar Coordinator, Farm Practical Training Coordinator, Sub Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Acting Head of Department and Sub Dean Postgraduate School. He was elected twice as the Dean Faculty of Agriculture in 2005 and 2008. He was also elected twice by the University Senate to serve as Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University between 2008 and 2012. He was on the University Council for four years on several Community, Departmental, Faculty, University, Senate and Governing Council Committees. He served as Research Associate, Presidential Task Force on Alternative Feed Formulation for Livestock (1989 – 1992), Research Associate, National Livestock Department Sponsored Demographic Study on Swine Production (1991 – 1995), Resource Person on Livestock Production, Kwara State Women Commission (1993 – 1994), Visiting Scientist, Virginia Polytechnic and State University, Blacksburg, VA, USA, (2001), Fulbright Research Scholar, Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, AL 36088, U.S.A. (1995 – 1996), GTZ Research Consultant on Poultry, National Institute for Fresh Water Fishery Research, New-Bussa, (1994 – 1995) and Research Consultant, Enhancing Productivity of Nesema Maale Pig Farmers Association, Esima, Western Region, Ghana (2015). He was also Project Manager, STEPB Research, University of Ilorin Project Team (2008 – 2011). Professor Ayorinde is an experienced administrator. He has served as Acting Head, Department of Animal Production (1991/92, 1992/93, 1995/96 &1996/97), Department of Animal Production Postgraduate Coordinator (1989 – 1991), Department of Animal Production Seminar Coordinator (1987 – 1990), Departmental Farm Practical Training Coordinator (1987 – 1990) and Departmental Examination Officer (1987 – 1990). He was the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ilorin (2005 – 2008), Sub-Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ilorin (1990 – 1992), Faculty of Agriculture Examination Coordinator (1990 – 1992), Secretary, Faculty of Agriculture Seminar Committee (1988 –1994) and Faculty of Agriculture Representative on the Board of Faculty of Science (1988 –1990). Professor Ayorinde was Member, University of Ilorin Teaching and Research Farm Planning and Implementation Committee (1989 –1994), Faculty Postgraduate Committee, Faculty Research Committee and Faculty Promotions Review Committee. He was the Production Coordinator and Member, Management Board, University of Ilorin Commercial Farm (1993 – 1995), and Faculty Representative on University of Ilorin Sugar Research Institute Board (1990-1994) and Board of Postgraduate School (1990-2000). Professor Ayorinde has been a member of the University of Ilorin Senate since 1990 and has served as the Chairman, University of Ilorin Senate Research Grant Committee (2008 – 2011), Chairman, Business Committee of Senate, University of Ilorin (2008 – 2012), Chairman, University of Ilorin Senate Committee on Review of University of Ilorin Academic Calendar (2006 – 2012) and Chairman, Senate Committee on Review of University of Ilorin Academic Programme (2002 – 2012). He also served as Senate Representative on Management Board of University of Ilorin Sugar Research Institute (1995 – 1997), University of Ilorin Business Committee of Senate (1998 – 2000) and on the Council- Senate Selection Board for Appointment of Vice Chancellor (2007).

Professor Ayorinde was a two term Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), University of Ilorin (2008-2012). He was Chairman, Student Disciplinary Committee, University of Ilorin (2008 – 2012), University of Ilorin Commercial Plantation Establishment Committee (2008 – 2012), University Fixed Assets Register Committee (2006 – 2008), University of Ilorin Security Committee (2008 – 2011), and Chairman, Board of Governors, University of Ilorin Secondary School (2008 – 2011), University School Board (2011 – 2012), University of Ilorin Community Relations Committee (2002 – 2005), Committee on University of Ilorin Post UME Screening (2008 – 2011), Committee on Computerization of University of Ilorin Student Registration 2008-2012) and Unilorin Standing Internal Accreditation Committee (2016 to 2018). He served as Vice Chairman, Unilorin Sugar Research Institute Board between 2005 and 2008 and was Chairman of the Board between 2008 and 2011.

Professor Ayorinde is a man given to service. He was Member, Board of Governors, ECWA Theological Seminary, Igbaja (2001 – 2012) where he served as Chairman of the Appointment and Promotion Committee (2005 – 2012) and the Academic Board between 1995 and 2012. He was the Chairman, Board of Governors, Aiyetoro -Ile Commercial Secondary School (1995 – 2008) and President Ayetoro Ile Descendants Union from 2000 till date. He is a Member, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Kwara Police Command, Ilorin (2008- date). He has served as Resource Person on Livestock Production to the Kwara State Women Commission (1993 – 1994) and on Assessment Panel of Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (2010). He was a Member of the Board of Elders, ECWA Chapel, Ilorin (1993-1999, 2002-2008) and is currently Patron, ECWA Student Ministry, University of Ilorin (2007 – date) and Unilorin Christian Union (2005 – date).

Professor Ayorinde is married to Adejoke Morounmubo Ayorinde and have five children. He assumed duty as Vice-Chancellor, KolaDaisi University, Ibadan, on the 8th of January, 2018. .
