The Center for Bioethics and Research (CBR), Nigeria organized a training on Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) for faculty members and the research unit of KolaDaisi University (KDU), Ibadan.

The onsite training is a component of the Scaling Up Research Ethics and Research Integrity (SURER) Project that is being done by CBR. The SURER Project implements a multi-institutional collaboration to develop Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR), Research/Scientific Integrity (RSI), Conflicts of Interest (CoI), Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), Safe Working and Sexual Harassment free Environment (SWSHE) training programs for researchers in Nigeria.

The RCR training was held for 2 days on the 27th and 28th of May, 2024 at the Agbeke Auditorium of the University. Participants of the training were drawn from departments in the Biomedical sciences, Biological Sciences, Humanities and Law.

The training was facilitated by CBR facilitators Prof. Adebayo Adejumo, Prof. Christopher Agulanna, and Mr. Adesola Adeyemo. They are trained bioethicists and experts in RCR issues.

In accordance with the recommendation of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) of the United States, the participants were engaged for more than eight hours of training through plenary sessions, breakout sessions and hands-on practical session to treat cases that align with the topics that were treated. Pre-test and post-test were organized to evaluate the level of understanding of the participants on the training they received.

The management of KolaDaisi University was represented by the Director, Research and Innovation, Prof Odekunle. In his remarks, he noted that the university is on the path of rebranding to harness many potentials that will engage in research. He said he is also looking forward to when the university will be recognized on the global map for cutting-edge research. He appreciated the management of the Center for Bioethics and Research and the NIH for prioritizing RCR training in Universities across Nigeria.
