During his fellowship at Oxford, Dr. Akanni will focus on creating a deterministic model for Onchocerciasis (commonly known as river blindness) using Bayesian methods. His work aims to assess the effectiveness of various disease control strategies, including public health education, fumigation, and mass drug administration, with a focus on cost efficiency. Additionally, he will investigate the potential impact of climate change on the disease's transmission. According to the Registrar of the University, Mr. Haruna Olawale Adetu, the fellowship will also grants Dr. Akanni membership in the prestigious Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and St. Edmund Hall at Oxford. His induction ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at the University of Oxford.
