Profile
Prof. Timothy Osiama Odiaka read Chemistry at the University of Cardiff and his Postdoctoral training at Cambridge, U.K. within a span of ten years (1971 to 1981).
He was appointed a postdoctoral Fellow at Cambridge for four years effective 1st October, 1980 but resigned after a year to take up a lecturer II position in the Chemistry Department of the University of Ibadan in August, 1981. He rose rapidly to become the first professor of Organometallics and Coordinator Chemistry in Nigeria on 1st October, 1994. Professor Tim Odiaka is a recipient of the British Government Scholarship (B.Sc, 1974 – 1977), Cardiff University Postgraduate Schorlarship (Ph.D, 1977 – 1980), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of the United Kingdom Fellowship (Cambridge, 1980 – 1981), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada Fellowship (Ottawa, 1988) and the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship (Germany, 1990 – 1992). He is a Chartered Chemist (C. Chem) and a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC) {London, 1980}. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartere Chemists of Nigeria (FICCON, 2004) and a Fellow of the Academy of Science (FAS, 2016).
Professor Odiaka has Published extensively in Local and International Journals and produced several M.Sc. and Ph.D candidates in Organometallics and Coordination Chemistry. He has been an external examiner (B.Sc, Ph.D) to several Nigerian Universities and has assessed candidates for promotion to the professorial cadre at the University of Calabar, University of Lagos, Obafemi Awolowo University, Covenant University, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Osun State University, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Redeemer’s University, Lagos State University, University of Petroleum Resources (Effurun), University of Nigerian (Nsukka), University of Port Harcourt, Kano University of Science and Technology (Wudil) and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University (Katsina).
Professor Odiaka was the Head of Inorganic Unit of the Department of Chemistry, University of Ibadan, from 1st October, 1992 to 31st July, 2017 (nearly 25 years), the Dean of Science, University of Ibadan from 1st August, 2007 to 31st July 2009 and the Head, Department of Chemistry, University of Ibadan from 1st August, 2017 to 31st July, 2021. He has been an Adjunct Lecturer here at Koladaisi University since 23rd November, 2021 before his recent appointment to the Deanship of the Faculty of Applied Sciences. He is the Author of the three Standard Chemistry Textbooks – Modern Organometallic Chemistry” (2004, 2015), “A Modern Approach to the Undergraduate Practical Inorganic Chemistry” (2008, 2012, 2015, 2017 and 2022) and “University Inorganic Chemistry” (2017). His outstanding achievement as a teacher, Researcher and Author has been recognized Worldwide by his citation in “Who’s Who in a Nigeria (2003 and 2007 editions), The contemporary Who’s Who of Professionals in the World”, U.S.A. (2004/2005 edition) and in “Who’s Who in the World”, Cambridge, England (2004/2005 edition).
Professor Tim Odiaka is happily married to Dr Stella Ifeyinwa Odiaka and they are blessed with five God – fearing children and grandchildren.

At the age of 19 years, he left Nigeria for Cardiff, U.K. in 1971, obtaining his O/Levels,

Professor Tim Odiaka has held several administrative positions and has equally served diligently and dutifully on many committees in the University of Ibadan where he has been a lecturer since August 1981. He rose through the ranks and became a Professor of He rose rapidly to become the first professor of Organometallics and Coordinator Chemistry in Nigeria on 1st October, 1994.. Professor Odiaka was the Head of Inorganic Unit of the Department of Chemistry, University of Ibadan, from 1st October, 1992 to 31st July, 2017 (nearly 25 years), the Dean of Science, University of Ibadan from 1st August, 2007 to 31st July 2009 and the Head, Department of Chemistry, University of Ibadan from 1st August, 2017 to 31st July, 2021.
