Profile

Prof. Olusoga Olopade, a legal practitioner, is an erudite international scholar. He assumed the position of Dean, Faculty of Law, KolaDaisi University, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria on 1st December, 2025. Before this appointment, he began as Adjunct Professor of Law in April 2023 (3 months after voluntarily returning from his sojourn abroad) and was later appointed as Professor of Law (Contract) in the same faculty and university in November 2024. Prof. Olopade, who is Nigeria’s first Professor of Medical/Healthcare Law, became a full Professor of Law in 2006.
Before returning to Nigeria, he was a Contractor to federal, state and county governments as well as corporations in the USA where he worked as Founder/Chief Executive Officer/Project Manager regarding interpreting services in the educational, legal, medical and social services. He facilitated interpreting projects (onsite and virtual) for dizens of clients, i.e, universities, teaching hospitals, courts, medical centres, statutory bodies and schools (middle and elementary), among others, in Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC.
He is a legal administrator par excellence with over three (3) decades of teaching, research and community service experience in universities. Before assuming his current position, he demonstrated academic leadership qualities as Dean of Law in four (4) private and public universities in Nigeria namely: Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, Oyo State; Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State; Kogi State University (currently known as Abubakar Audu University), Anyigba, Kogi State and Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State. He was a member of Senate and chaired many university committees, such as Faculty Board of Law and Examiners as well as Student Disciplinary and Examination Malpractices Committees, among others. He cooperated with faculty and staff to achieve accreditations of the two (2) national regulators namely: the National Universities Commission and Council of Legal Education in relation to start-up and ripe law programs. Prof. Olopade is a versatile administrator, having served in all three (3) major faculty of law administrative positions videlicet: Dean (7 terms), Head of Departments (9 terms) and Sub-Dean for 16 years cumulatively in public and private universities in Nigeria.
Before obtaining his graduate degree in law from Obafemi Awolowo University, ILe-Ife, Osun State in 1991, he had his undergraduate degree from the same university in 1987. During his undergraduate days, he was the President of Law Students’ Society and was called to the Nigerian bar in 1988. Thereafter, he served as Legal Adviser to Birnin-Gwari Local Government, Birnin-Gwari, Kaduna State during the compulsory 1-year National Youth Service Scheme. Later on, he became a Public Prosecutor, that is, State Counsel, in the Department of Public Prosecutions, Ministry of Justice, Akure, Ondo State, less than a week after concluding national service. He resigned seven (7) months after to enable him to devote full-time to graduate degree program that he was pursuing at Obafemi Awolowo University, ILe-Ife, Osun State.
Prof. Olopade cut his academic teeth as Lecturer 2 in the Faculty of Law of the University of Jos, Plateau State from May 1991 till April 1995 after which he served as Lecturer 1, Sub-Dean of Law and Secretary, Academic Staff Union of Universities in Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti (as it then was) from 1995 to 1997. He taught law, nursing, accounting, banking and finance, political science, marketing, business administration, management and mass communication students in public and private universities in Nigeria at both undergraduate and graduate levels. He was also a Tutorial Facilitator at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Akure Centre in 2009. In addition, he taught law courses (on Part-Time basis) in 2 federal universities and 3 polytechnics in Nigeria.
Concerning state and national services, Prof. Olopade was among the think-tank that reformed Education Policies (at all levels) for Ondo State Government of Nigeria. He chaired the Tertiary Education sub-sector in “Policy Review and Project Implementation Committee” in 2008 during the regime of the then Governor-Dr. Olusegun Agagu (Deceased) and served as a Commissioner in Ondo State Judicial Service Commission from 2008 to 2009. From 2008 to 2012, he held the position of Legal Adviser to the ruling party-People’s Democratic Party (PDP)-at state level. He was among those who collaborated with the Federal and Ondo State Governments to implement the Fadama 2 project for the World Bank during the same period.
He has dozens of publications in both local and international journals. Also, he participated in conferences at home and abroad. Among his published books are: Law and Medical Practice in Nigeria, Dictionary of Medical Law, Law of Abortion in Nigeria, and Law for Nurses and Midwives.
His academic pedigree has been recognised both locally and internationally. He is a Biographee, Marquis Who’s Who in the World (USA 2005), Who’s Who in Healthcare Law (USA 2008), Who’s Who in Law Academia (USA 2007), 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century (International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England 2006), Leading Educator of the World (International Biographical Centre, England 2008) and International Educator of the Year (International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England 2008).
He is a member of the following local and international associations: Nigerian Bar Association, National Association of Law Teachers, Amnesty International (Washington DC), Youths for Human Rights (Washington DC), New York State Bar Association (Web Member), American Society for Law, Medicine and Ethics (Web Member), Global Alliance for Justice Education, and Association for Police and Criminal Psychology. Previously, he belonged to the following local and international associations: Academic Staff Union of Universities (where he was a member of the National Constitution Drafting Commission), Association of Nigerian Professors (during which he became the Maiden Secretary at Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State), International Medical Interpreters Association (Active Member), World Association for Medical Law, Society of Legal Scholars (UK), International Bar Association (USA), Canadian Association of Law Teachers and International Society for the Reform of Criminal Law (Canada).
