Profile
Prof Ganiyu Arinola is basically an Immunologist with specific interest on human studies. His focus of research is on immune responses during communicable/non-communicable diseases. He has laboratory experience on most basic immunological techniques and other techniques that might be needed in this project. He was and still PI or co-Investigator on several University-, EU- and NIH-funded grants which produced peer-reviewed publications. He has experience and leadership ability for coordinated collaborative research within realistic framework. He presently published eight articles on COVID-19 patients in reputable peer-reviewed journal. He is also co-PI on TETfund research titled Development of simple affordable PCR technique, immunology and molecular characterization of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) in Nigeria.
Personal Statement
I am basically an Immunologist with specific expertise in human studies. My focus of research is on immune responses during communicable- and non-communicable diseases. I have also related nutritional status, household air pollution, occupational exposure and social life with immune responses. My on-going researches are
- DNA methylation status, microbiome types, serum inflammatory mediators and micronutrients among patients with breast cancer; and Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma.
- Asthma: (a). Relating urinary Triclosan level with total and specific IgE in asthmatic patients.
(b). Consortium on Genetic Study of Asthma among African-ancestry Populations in the Americas (NIH Funded).
- Genetic polymorphisms of immune factors responsible for susceptibility/resistant to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection (MEPIN Funded).
- Immune Responses and Molecular Characterisation of COVID-19 infection in geopolitical zones in Nigeria (TETFUND funded).
- HAPCOG Study: Impact of household air pollution in-utero through early childhood on neurocognitive development from infancy to 8years (NIH Funded)
I have trained and still training students within and outside Nigeria at undergraduate and postgraduate (M.Sc, M.Phil, Ph.D and M.D) levels. I was and still PI or co-Investigator on several University-, EU- and NIH-funded grants which produced peer-reviewed publications. I have the experience and leadership ability for coordinated collaborative research within realistic framework
